The most recent terrorist attacks made me begin to think,
“What is God’s Plan For A Terrorist?”
Now I know some of us would respond in anger, “For them to burn in hell!” But the Lord’s heart is merciful and His Word says that He is “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)
Two critical points that you have to understand from this verse. The first is this, God does not want anyone in hell. God is our Father and when He looks down upon humanity and the mess we are in, He does not shake His head in anger. Instead, He is filled with compassion and mercy. This was never His plan! His heart is grieved when He sees the ones He created in His own image killing one another.
Secondly, God wants for every one of us, not just terrorists, to turn from our sins and turn to Him. That is what it means to “come to repentance.” And while it may be easy for us to condemn such violent acts of terror, we need to also examine our own hearts and lives remembering that Jesus condemned ALL forms of hatred, not just murder. (Matthew 5:21-22)
Lastly, never underestimate what an all powerful God of love can do to transform a life, even the life of a terrorist. A guy named Saul was a religious Jew who vehemently hated Christians. He approved of them being killed. (Acts 8:1) He put them in prison. (Acts 8:3) He spewed out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. (Acts 9:1) I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say this guy was a Jewish terrorist of his day.
But God had an amazing plan for this guy Saul. God literally knocked this guy to the ground, converted him and left him blind for three days! (Acts 9:4,9) The end result of this guy’s life? He ended up becoming the world’s first Christian missionary, wrote thirteen books of the New Testament. He even wrote some of the most poetic words ever written on the topic of love!! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) This man has left a legacy that lives on even today. You may know this guy Saul by another name, The Apostle Paul.
From Paul’s life we learn this one amazing truth: God is a God of redemption, not destruction.#God is a God of redemption, not destruction. #ParisAttacks #PrayforParis #PrierPourParis Click To Tweet
So what is God’s plan for every terrorist? It is that they would repent of their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not only the hope for terrorists. He is the only hope for the entire world!
If you are a Christian today, I charge you in the name of the Lord to be bold! It is not a time to shrink back. We have the only hope the world needs. Let us not be overcome by evil, but overcome this evil with the good news of Jesus Christ! (Romans 12:21)
And if you are not yet a Christian, remember this: all of us have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) You may not be a terrorist, but you still have sinned and therefore you still need salvation. Repent and believe the good news – God sent Jesus not to condemn you, but to save your life. (John 3:16-17)
