A thought came to me about one new way to define true success. Success is when you can be the same person at all times.
For instance, you do not change who you are when you are standing in the presence of someone important. You live the same way at home as you do at church. You are equally fun, sad, angry, boring, immature, bubbly or courageous no matter whose company you are in. Here is how I came to this thought…
Jesus was 100% God yet He became fully 100% man.
“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, NIV)
When Jesus took on humanity he did not put off his divinity. He was God in the flesh. He was fully God and fully man. He did not change his identity to appease us or water down his divine nature. Anyone who met Jesus encountered an authentic person who was secure enough in his true identity that He did not compromise his personhood to please others.
My hope and prayer is that I can become more like Jesus in this way. I want to be the same me no matter who I am around. This is not to suggest being unwilling to change or being stubborn, but being genuine, authentic, real, honest, transparent and without fear of the opinion of man. (Proverbs 29:25, NIV)
Next year I will be working on a new book that reveals God’s truest definition of success! (Stay tuned!!!) I’d like to hear from you, how would you finish this sentence? “Success is when…”[Great Resource: Teach Kids (and Adults) Their Identity in Christ – Easy & Simple to Remember!]
